Hello everyone. I hope you can help me.
I have a network with the following configuration:
|
---------------
| Cable Modem |
---------------
|
----------------
| Linux Router |
----------------
|
-----------------
| 8 port switch |
-----------------
| | |
three computers (more in the future)
Until now, I have successful used for the linux box the floppyfw one-floppy
distribution. This was set up to do nat and dhcp so all I had to do was write a
floppy and boot from it.
However, I now require more detailed traffic logging and control, possibly using IP
Flow Meter and HTB (2.4.20+). Because it is rather hard to squeeze all this onto a
floppy (including the log for one month), I decided I needed a bigger distro, and a
hard drive.
Any help in choosing the right distribution is appreciated.
Technical details:
- the outside IP is static
- the speed of the modem is 128kbits/sec (16kBps; yes, I know)
- the router is a Pentium 100 (downcloked at 75 Mhz to get rid of the noisy fan), 24
MB ram, two ISA 10mbps NE2k clones. I know this is low spec, but it's all I have;
from what i hear, it could work under much higher loads.
- HDD is a 400mb Seagate (this is very important; the mdk I tried to put on it needed
350mb with all options unchecked).
Also, I would like to know what software do I need on the box, to make windows file
sharing posible between the three computers (or how to configure them).
Thank you very much
