Hello everybody,

I have got a litte home network with 3 PCs. One laptop (my Dad's), my
Windows machine for gaming and of course the Linux box for all the
intelligent stuff:-)

All three of them have their own hostnames for easily identifying them.
The router lists the names of my Windows machine and the laptop (also
Windows) but seems not to have any name of my Linux box.

For several reasons I built my own router but I still have the old and
ugly boxed router. This one is behaving the same way. That's why I am
pretty sure that it's Linux' problem. My self-made router is running
under Linux, too.

What's going wrong that the router cannot receive the hostname?

Are you using dhcp? If so which client, dhcpcd or dhclient? Dhclient
has an option to send a hostname to the dhcp server, AFAICT dhcpcd
does not.

Also dhcpcd has a command line option for host name
# ducpch -h HOSTNAME
