I have a DG834GT router which has sky's cutom firmware on it.
Sometimes the attenuation is shown as 15.5db which is wrong because
the 'normal' figure is around 55db. Could this indicate a line fault
or is it just a bug in the ADSL driver on the router.

Normal figure for who? You or everyone else? If you have noticed something
change then it could indicate a fault. I would go to Netgear and update it
to the latest firmware other owners use. You can get the user name and
password out of it fairly quickly.

It's a bug, apparently it also occurs on the standard Netgear firmware and
some other makes of broadcom based routers.

Yes it is a bug, I used to see it on my old belkin 7633, I have seen it
mentioned many times by others.
