(Trying again to post this...)
Hello!
I've had a browse around ADSLguide and this newsgroup, and I'm wondering
which routers/bridges would be recommended (ADSL on one side, Ethernet
on the other, when bridging as well as routing).
In particular, I'd like something that can be configured as either a
router (with NAT, etc) or a bridge (so the machine(s) on my side can, or
have to, deal with pretty much everything). This is because I'm
interested in things like:-
* setting up my own router on a spare machine (and then just using the
router/bridge as just a bridge);
* having both static and dynamic IP numbers later (some ISPs provide
this), with stuff like a web server, etc, on a machine with static IP
number;
* sharing the connection among a number of machines (obviously);
* and doing other stuff I haven't thought of, yet.
Basically, I just want a reasonably good router/bridge that's
sufficiently flexible that I'm still left with lots of options open for
how I might go on to use it :-)
One such router/bridge I'm considering is the Addon "1/4 Ports ADSL
Router" in the current Maplin catalogue (order code A12BF, page 425).
It sounds like the right sort of thing, but as I'm new to ADSL, I'd like
to at least double-check.
Anyway, :-)
Simon
