The Route to ADSL

Hello,

Historically I used my analogue line for Internet access, then had a
second analogue installed for just the PC. My company installed ISDN
for Home-Office use and when I left them became responsible for the
line which I now use for my Internet connection.

At some unknown time, my first line became DACSed although that really
did not matter all that much but remains an annoyance that it can just
happen without you being advised.

With ADSL arriving next month perhaps the obvious way to have the
service would be a managed conversion of the ISDN line, but thinking
that the transition might not be entirely smooth opted to reactivate
the second analogue stating it would be for ADSL use. BT complied
with this request and to help sort out the pairs to be used back to
the exchange an engineer came to my house and placed a tone generator
on the second line's master socket. The presence of the BT engineer
enabled me to establish that the line would be suitable for ADSL.
There was no charge for this service and my minimum contract was set
at 3 months. So all we do is to wait until the switch on date and
meanwhile order up a Vigor 2600 etc.

Afterwards, with hopefully all being OK, I will discontinue with the
ISDN service but what notice do I have to give to BT and will there be
a fee payable?

I was also wondering if the primary number associated with the ISDN2e
service could be re-used as a Call Sign number on either of my
analogue lines and if so what sort of costs I am looking at. Does
anyone know?

Thanks in advance
David Bradley

Why didn't you just order ADSL on that line? Then they'd have un-DACS'd
it and saved some money...

With ADSL arriving and the ISDN2e going it would have left me with
only one voice line - I have a requirement for two.
