Hi All,

I have cable access to the internet. I'm using a LinkSys router, all
is well. Does anyone know of a router that ( if the cable goes out)
can then dial-up another connection? And if this can happen, when the
cable comes back, switch back to the cable? Am I asking (looking) for
to much??

Thanks

I am not very familiar with the details of the product lines of LinkSys,
D-Link, Netgear, and kin, so I do not have any information about whether
you could find something inexpensive with that feature.

I do know, that, that you can do what you want with some of the Cisco
devices in the 800 series, such as the 831. I'm not sure if it could
be done just with the Cisco feature "DDR" (Demand Dialer) configured
in some unusual way; the Cisco feature "Dialer Watch" can do it, I'm sure.
The 831 supports that.

Warning: Although the 831 is a very good value for all the features
it supports, it is probably about 4 times as expensive as your LinkSys
router. The product part number to search for is CISCO831-K9 .
Prices are about $US450 to $US500 depending where you shop.

Suppose there was a test you could take that would report whether
you had Free Will or were Pre-Destined. Would you take the test?

not sure. Never tried it TBH!

Nope. The above model also has a builtin print server.

Any router that has a RS232 connection can be connected to a dial-up modem.
There are some routers that are cable and dial-up ready. Some models of the
SMC routers can do this. I don't know about the auto switching and that may
need to be done manually through a computer on the dial-up.

Yeah, but it doesn't help the OP any if the RS232 connection is only
a management interface with no dial-out facility.

At least one SMC model can do it. And I have a firend who was using a D-
link with RS232 connection to dial-up to ISP.

Look at the ZyXEL 2 for a conventional router, or the model 2W wireless.
