I have a network with both WinXP and Win2000 clients.
Anyone out there that has managed to make roaming profiles
work for both operating systems. Or know how to make two
profiles, one for each OS ???

I don't know of any way to do this, as the profiles are not compatible
between OSes and there's no way to have two profile paths defined per user.
It's rarely good to have mixed OS versions on clients if it can be avoided.

Corrections are most welcome.

I agree completely. It is also important that the machines, in addition to
having the same OS, also be a similar as is possible concerning the software
and features loaded on them. The start menu is part of the profile and you
end up with shortcuts on the menu for programs that aren't really there, and
vice-versa.
