Why can't I get roaming profiles to work?

I've set up a Win2003 Server, added a dozen users to it and created a dozen shared folders, each accessible only to one user and administrators.

Within each user's folder, I've created another folder called "PROFILE". In the "Profiles" tab of their AD, I have tried SO many variations of the path to that directory, to no avail. Whenever I log in, the workstation invariably uses (or creates) a local profile.

If my server name is "Server" and my name is "Frank", then in theory this should be the path, no?

//Server/Frank/PROFILE

Frank can easily browse, right and read from this folder, so I don't think permissions are the problem.

Why then doesn't it work? Is there an additional step on the server that I'm missing? I just installed this thing yesterday and boy howdy, are its default security policies tight. Is there a policy preventing this from happening? Could the problem be that the shared folders are on a different HD from the OS?

Thanks,
Daniel

Stupid me, I put the slashes in wrong in my previous post. This is not how they are on the server. On the server, they are:

\\Server\Frank\PROFILE
But it doesn't work either way.

Make a new share called userprofiles. Create sub folders
with each users name.

Like this:

userprofiles
-frank
-jhon doe

Try to change your profile setup so that the it ends with
the username
Like this

\\servername\sharename\username

This worked for me. Good luck

....you don't need to create the subfolders; they'll be created
automatically. Make sure the NTFS permissions on the main Profiles folder
are set so that all users have full control.

I usually share the Profiles folder as a hidden share - PROFILES$

Then in each user's properties in ADUC, set the profile path to
\\SERVERNAME\PROFILE$\%username%
