Hey Guys,

Is there any danger laying approximately 30 feet of RJ45/CAT5E UTP outside
(from my house going to my shed outside)? What about in those green plastic
things 'cable & wireless' use?

Cheers,
Sham126

Only problems I can see are tripping over it and over zealous use of a
garden spade - help I seem to have been cut off!

Nothing too critical if it's buried.

Although the risk is slight...
o Bulgin do a range of waterproof RJ45 sockets
o They are a panel mount variety, sealed when capped or with their connector

www.rswww.com do them - cheaper than more mil-spec Amphenol RJ Field
panel mount connectors, and with cheap 68p IIRC sealing caps additionally.
Hmm, "here's our water feature & water cooled web server in the garden" :-)
RS probably still have the cap code reversed in the online catalog - ask.

Just in case the shed is exposed to wood-dust, power-tools, garden plants
and someone more capable of watering the counter-tops than the plants :-)
Good for other applications too re rugged RJ45 in offices and such like.

Don't run the RJ45 cable in a conduit with mains cable, and if you have a
mains cable run to the shed do put an RCD on it - just the usual safety.
