Dear all,

I have abundance of network cable at home. At the moment my mini home
network is limited to only one room, which is my study room. I wanted to
have a port available in another room so I can connect my laptop there. The
question is not about how do I do it! But its about the network cable I
have, the cable is without RJ45 Connectors. Now I have been looking for
connectors on dabs.com etc and could only find these:

RJ45 Modular Connector 25 pack

http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-se...&mc=&sc=&jisi=

Is this the right product I am looking at? Is attaching a connector-less
cable to RJ45 Connector a simple task?

I am asking this, because so far I have used the cable ready with RJ45
connectors at both ends.

Thanks

They should be the clear plastic things on the end of the ready-made
cables you have (after you peel the shoe off). You'll also need a
crimper tool and instructions (which you can easily find with google). A
multimeter to test continuity is good too. Expect to waste a few plugs
before you get the hang of it. Oh and I hope you're not colour blind. :-)

Making up your own RJ-45 CAT 5e cable run isn't hard. If it's just a cable
run to another room, I'd suggest using two punch-down type female patch-panel
connectors with wall outlet boxes on either end (Belkin is what they usually
order here), permanently installed, and use regular patch cables to connect
the machines through that. The punchdown boxes make things a lot easier.

Noting you're in the UK, check http://www.bka.co.uk/data_accessories.htm
They seem to be more retail oriented.

There are two types of connectors as well- one for stranded cable and one for
single core. You should get the correct connectors for your cable.
