RJ45 cable coupler - a no doubt simple and effective piece of hardware,
but I have no experience of utilising one, and find I need one ...

Any drawbacks in using these things, and can someone pop one in the post
for me as most suppliers seems to want 3 or 4 times the amount in
postage than the item actually costs?

;-)

£2.29 delivered on eBay, or £12.45 for 20.
Maybe you meant to ask in uk.adverts.computer?

It counts as an extra connection and depending on CAT Type and protocol you
may exceed the limit

Only one connector going in. The situation is that someone has has
routed the cable, but finds they are approx 3m short of length!

It will be a pig to lay the cable again - although it is only a 15m
length, it is laid through a very tiny roof space with lots of wooden
rafters etc - so the option to join 2 together is preferred.

ONly 2 PC's and a wireless router will be connected.

At that price, why not suck it and see?

If it was me I'd do it and I'd be gobsmacked if it didn't work...

So this is just a long patch cable? If that is the case then you have
effectively eliminated the patch cable to socket connection at each end
that would exist if the fixed cable was terminated with sockets, and
using the coupler introduces two new patch cable to socket connections -
you're breaking even :-) It's a short cable run so there won't be a
problem with signal attenuation - as long as there isn't a significant
source of interference in the roof space it will work fine.

Time mainly. Setup needed to be complete last Friday :-(

That's what I intend doing, TBH. The 'miscalculation' wasn't my fault,
and I didn't lay the cable, i'm just hooking the systems up and
configuring it all. Never had any experience of coupler's, so had no
clue how detrimental it would be.

Unless you are running perilously close to the limits of CAT5 cabling, you
can get away with almost anthing ;-)

No 'limits' in this install, well, only those of my patience maybe...
