I have RedHat9 box (133MHz, 64 MB), from eth through switch in to w2k box
(2.4 GHz, 512 MB) integrated LAN. From w2k through USB port in to Motorola
cable modem( surf board 5100). I tried so many things (changing settings in
reg., installing proxy, ics properties.....), that I am almost giving up. I
would like to find a place where I can read about this and other things that
I am interested in. Which ever HOWTO I visit, it does not have anything
about this problem.
Thank you.

Are you trying to set up your Win2K box to perform NAT (Network Address
Translation)? If so, you should probably ask for help in a Microsoft
Windows networking group, rather than a Linux networking group.

Have you searched for NAT-related articles on Microsoft's web site? For
example, the following URL points to a "The Cable Guy" article I found
on Microsoft's "TechNet" web site that describes setting up NAT on a
Windows 2000 Server box:

http://tinyurl.com/o3b7

If you are not running Win2k Server (i.e., if you are running Win2k
workstation), then at the bottom of this TechNet article there's a link
to another "Cable Guy" article named "Windows 2000 Network Address
Translator" (March 2001) that might be useful.

HTH

In W2K all you have to do is go to
Start->Settings->Network and Dialup connections;
right click the broadband connection, properties, select sharing tab,
select "Enable Internet Connection Sharing".

That's it on the W2K side. Now begin reading the many outdated
50-page Linux Howto's that pretend to tell you how to set up
correctly on the Linux side.

I'm pretty sure it's the same number of steps:
Open terminal
$ su -
# iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
# echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

I'm glad there are windows people that we can share this kind of
information with. Could you explain to me how to set up Windows NAT to
work correctly with file transfer in ICQ? I can't seem to get it to
connect correctly and icq uses dynamic ports so it's not a simple matter
of forwarding...is there some kind of module I can use?
