Hi Folks.
I've just built a RH9 system on a machine with both a TR card and
Ethernet, with the intention of using it as a bridge between the two
LANs.
Both cards are detected and configured fine, but when it goes to bring
up the interface, I get an I/O error.
While attempting to bring up the interface, the LED indicator on the
TR hub goes green for a few seconds, then goes out, then goes orange,
then out again, then the cycle repeats, before the Linux box reports
the I/O error.
This is similar behaviour to what happened under WinXP on the same
machine[*], before I forced the card to 16Mbps, instead of
auto-detect, so I suspect this is the problem I am experiencing under
Linux.
Can the card be forced to 16Mbps under Linux?
The card in question is an IBM 16/4 PCI card, using the Olycom
chipset.
TIA.
Tim.
[*] - Before anyone asks: No, the WinXP bridging function does not
seem to work with Token Ring cards. The bridge apparently comes up,
but no frames are transmitted on the TR interface (even
locally-generated ones) when the bridge is enabled. And yes, I have
tried "force-compatibility" mode (works at layer 3 instead of using
promisc mode) and it doesn't help.
