Reuse Profile on NT Workstation Connecting to 2000 Server

Replaced an NT Server with 2000 Advanced Server -- using
same domain name & IP address, etc. as old NT Server. I
would like to reuse the local profiles on the NT
workstations. The 2000 workstations connect fine, but the
NT Workstations give an error, indicating that the domain
controller could not be contacted...but appears to connect
to everything anyway. I realize this message can be
supressed (with a registry setting), but I don't want to
ignore it if it's going to cause a problem in the future.
Has anyone heard of this problem? If so, do you know how
I can reuse the old profiles, eliminating the need to
reset all of the user settings?

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
