I phoned up my ISP a while ago to cancel my then unusable broadband as
technical support were going around in circles. Retentions managed to
convince me to give technical support another go and said they would call
me back.

They called me back, were a bit more helpful. They said they were willing
to give me a month free because of the trouble I was having, but I would
have to enter into a new 12 month contract.

Crafty way of retaining a customer, try to lock into a 12 month contract
so it doesn't matter that if the broadband can't be fixed because they
can't leave anyway. Bit of an insult really.

Virgin Media's current £10 pcm broadband contract has a 30 day period during
which you can cancel if you're unsatisfied. Ask for that - and the £10 price.

They've stopped (cut down) on cuttin the prices for those that phone up
now.
Someone's realised that it makes the company look a joke, where you tell
them you want the service they offer but not at the set price.

All the 'fixed price for life' prices that people have bin given, are
gonna back fire soon.
There's no way that Virgin Media can honour them in the future.

I really think all that hagglin/discounts/deals have made the company
look stewpid.
Especially when you're payin £15 less a month for the same package that
Bob next door is payin for his.

All the Bob's are gonna start complainin soon when they find out.
What will happen then?
Virgin Media has no choice but to bring everyone's prices back into
line, and effectively cancel all them 'fixed price for life' deals?

Just to add to that...
These deals are not just due to the loss of SKY1 channel, that people
are phonin gettin their bill reduced.
People are phonin up gettin their bills reduced for the reason that
'their mate' got his cheaper last week, so they want the same.

That's where it has got out of hand, and makes the company look a joke.

BT tried that one on me a couple of years ago. I was paying £26.99 and they
offered £22 per month but I had to start new contract to go with it.
