I am trying to install a printer on a Class C LAN at 192.168.0.229
(192.168.0.229/255.255.255.0/192.168.0.241). I cannot ping that address from
the Win 2000 server ot any workstation (or via a crossover cable on a
laptop). I enabled DHCP the device was assigned 192.168.0.18 and I was able
to ping. I then disabled DHCP and changed back to 192.168.0.229, and nothing,
no reply to a ping. I then changed to 192.168.0.227 and all is good.
The Administrator wants the printers in the 192.168.0.220-.239 range.
Is there some reason why 192.168.0.229 is restricted or blocked?? The
Administrator has no clue and knows of no restrictions on the LAN.
Is there a source of restricted addresses for various networks e.g.
loopback, etc.?
