Reset Roaming Profile

I have a win2000 pc that had trojans on it. I finally formatted the pc to get
rid of it - or so I thought. there must be something in the users roaming
profile because even after formatting and re-installing win2000 IE still
opens to advertising sites upon login by the user. This also happens when the
user logs in on any pc. How do I re-set the roaming profile or what do I do?
Thanks.

Collect the files from the profile that are needed (My Documents, Browser
Favorites, etc). Then dump the profile and reconfigure any other part of the
profile manually afer creating a fresh one.

You may need to scan the server that contained the profile since it may have
been infected too.

I see where to delete the profile - there is nothing the user can't do
without. But how do I re-create it? Will it just happen when they login?

Dump it on both the Server and the local machine. Just becuase the Profile
is roaming doesn't mean there isn't one locally. You have to dump their
profile on every machine they have used and the Master Profile on the
Server, and you can't have them logging on the anything while you are doing
that (disable their account temporarily). Then have them log in to one
machine (any machine) and it will create a local profile on that machine and
then will copy it to the Server. When they log onto other machines after
that it will copy from the Master to the local.

I deleted the profile on the server and the local machine. Then I logged on
as the user. Now when I log off it says it can't update the roaming profile -
access is denied. What is the problem? Thanks.

I don't know. I refuse to use Roaming Profiles because of all the mindless
nonsense they create. You probably deleted the user's Root folder on the
Server that had the NTFS Permissions set.

I can't help you any deeper with Roaming Profiles.

Sounds like an acess rights issue. Check the access rights to the profile
path for the user on the server.
