Hi, I am currently with ADSL24 on their BE LLU.

Can anyone say from experience if the service I might expect if I switched
to O2 (also BE LLU) would be comparable in speed and quality?

Understood I'd lose the ISP provided web space, but would the line speed
and throughput be similar? Do O2 have limits on backhaul bandwidth set by
BE or is the backhaul network identical no matter which BE reseller is
used?

It's less than half the price, so I'm tempted.

Thanks
Peter

Well I'm with Be Unlimited they sell it as up to 24 Mb
O2 sell theirs as up to 20 Mb
I do at times think of transferring to O2 as they can do home phones as well
but there is talk Be will offer them too in the near future.

On Be Web site I can change My Profile, IE Optimise for speed
Standard setting
Optimise for reliability

Been told with O2 I will not be able to do that.

Can't answer your technical questions but hope this might be of some
interest.
I am a very happy Be customer.
Regards
David

you've got it the wrong way around - BE belong to O2.
the service you'll get is one and the same in technical terms and if you use
O2 for your mobile it will be lots cheaper.

You also need to consider less tangible things - like support for
example. I know Be's support is in Bulgaria, but their English is
good and they seem on the ball. I've raised a couple of tickets, I've
only phoned them once - that was to negotiate a price reduction :-)
I've no idea about O2's support.

The norm with resellers is that they provide their own backhaul
BE and O2 LLU backhaul are one and the same - O2 own BE, but it's BE's
network and being closer to it as a BEing instead of being on O2 LLU can
often be an advantage

Connection speed should be the same

O2 advertising up to 20Mb is really marketing - this is close to the maximum
throughput you would get on a very short line on O2 LLU

BE allow you to have fastpath which gives an increased sync speed, O2 don't
do fastpath
BE have the control panel which allows you set a 3db or 9db SNR profile and
set gaming mode (fastpath) on or off - you have to call O2 to get the SNR
profile changed

BE and O2 LLU use Routed EthoA, not sure about ADSL24. This means you lose
about 10% - 15% for throughput for ATM overheads. In reality, if not
identical, speed and quality should be comparable

Have been with BE over 4 years now - never looked back and couldn't be
happier

I have no idea which of the SNR settings Be have given me.
Can you explain what each would do for me, sort of advantages and
disadvantages.

I'm optimised for speed and gaming mode On.

Peter explained perfectly, but this may help explain further

You should not have to endure that Peter, have you reported it as a voice service fault?

Meanwhile, at the uk.telecom.broadband Job Justification Hearings, Andrew
Benham chose the tried and tested strategy of:

Support number is 080 so it's free as well.
