as a long term cable user I'm unsure of what I need to install ADSL for my
80 year old mum. I'm assuming a wires only option would be least expensive
and I've yet to decide on the ISP but I'm looking a this basic, cheap n cheerful
single port ADSL modem / NAT router firewall combo.

http://www.solwise.co.uk/adsl-billion-5100s.htm

I'll probably get a splitter from the same source, but what else will I need ?
wall boxes ? cables ? she lives 120 miles away so popping home to grab
a few bits won't be an option and I don't fancy hunting down any gubbins on
a saturday afternoon in a tiny market town, it's one shot job

any pointers or a parts list of what I'll need would be gratetfully appreciated
(I'm perusing ADSL guide and a few other websites so not being totally
lazy, just trying to shorten the learning curve)

many thanks in advance

RT

you need microfilters (splitters) for phones, faxes, alarms, CLID
units etc etc - either one each or one at a common point from which
the rest can be fed.

The ADSL modem/router need not be filtered but can use a cheaper
RJ11-BT adaptor if its not next to a phone.

is her phone wiring relatively simple ? if its a spiders web and the
line is long (512k only message at www.bt.com/broadband ) then a bit
more effort may be required to make it work reliably.

the router you selected needs a power point within reach of the phone
socket you intend to use and the computer.
