Reporting spam

Where can I view charters for various news groups, I'm guessing this one
like most has a no spam policy?

So is it worthwhile reporting the spammers who polute our groups. How do you
go about eporting them and do their ISP's actually do anything when they are
reported?

You thoughts please.

If it's posted via Google, forget it.
If it's from China or India as well then double forget it.
Chinese spam is Google's cash cow.

What spam? I think you need to use a better service and newsreader.

In that Google don't give a shit I agree but at least they put the
poster's IP address in the header so you can find where it originates.
I've had some success in making complaints to a Google poster's ISP when
they were based in the UK.

Absolutely, and the current batch it all India & China.

To the o/p, with the asian stuff you just have to work out a filtering
rule set from the headers, or use purpose made filtering proggy.

Firstly, do you know how to read headers ? I mean FULL headers that is. For
example your post's headers were ..

You'll need that info to report anyone, you'll simply be told to do it again if
you omit it.

It's worth doing a 'whois' to ensure the posting IP address matches any
complaint reporting info. It's not unknown for some of that info to be faked.
And of course, the abuse report address may belong to the news server operator,
not the ISP the poster is with.

Depends upon the ISP; in the UK, probably they *will* act
(although they may not tell you exactly what they did) ... in the USA
(where most of the crap is spewed from) ... possibly not :-(

If the ISP is actually a huge telco ... well, historically they
seem to care little (when Tiscali came to the UK it was, from my point
of view, a HUGE spam sewer)



There are two scales of abuse, "BI" and "off-topic"

BI (excessive cross / multi-posting) is *abuse* of usenet (abuse
of the resources, most ISPs are more interested in this / stopping this)

off-topic is abuse *on* usenet ... many ISPs will only warn the
poster, if that

I block sender with a 30day expiry. I can set number
of days for expiry, but the default 30days works fine.
