Replicate over VPN

Hello,
I want to add a child domain to one of our offices in South America. We
have a vpn with that office at all times, eventhough the connections is not
that good all the time. I want the users to logon locally to their DC. They
are also on a different subnet that we are. I would like for the DNS in
South America to query our DNS as well before going out to the internet.
Where can i find the info for this? I know i have to go to AD sites and
services, but i don't know if i have to create a new site. I also notice
that there is a subnet folder that is empty, do i have to add the current
subnet that we have now? I also want to schedule replication at night since
we really don't need to have the info over right away. When replication
occurs, what gets replicated and how big is it? I have a Windows 2003
network.
Thx

I would think twice about making it a child domain. That seems like
overkill for your setup. Sites should do what you want.

You tie the IP subnet of your main office to the existing site. You
create a new site for the remote office and tie its IP subnet to the new
site. You move the new DC into the new site. Clients in the remote site will
automatically be directed to the local DC for logon.

For DNS, I would configure each DNS server as a secondary of the other.
Each DNS server will then be able to locally resolve requests for names in
either site (because it has a copy of the "other" site's zone records) .

Thanks, i was thinking about the child domain yesterday and thought that may
not be the best idea since it is about 10 employess. Thanks for that
recommendation. About having a secondary DNS on the office abroad, would it
update as well. I would like to be able from my office to query the
computers abroad. I also want to install DHCP in the office abroad. I
currently have AD DNS. Is this possible with a secondary dns?

The secondary is just a copy of the primary zone at the other site. If
they are AD integrated then changes are replicated by AD, I think.

To have your AD DNS servers resolve outside names, you set them up to
forward to a public DNS server.
