I have a situation where I went from a WIN2K domain to a WIN2K3 Domain and
replaced the old server with a new server. In the process we created a new
domain on the new server.
At the workstations we removed them from the old domain then added them to
the new. Worked great except for the profiles. We had to touch each PC and
after they join the new domain we would rename the new profile to .new then
rename the old profile to match what the new profile created.
So C:\documents and settings\mike.olddomain had the old profile and
\mike.newdomain had the new. Renamed \mike.newdomain to \mike.newdomain.new
and renamed \mike.olddomain to \mike.newdomain.
This worked and all the desktop settings and other settings were in place
but there has to be an easier way.
I work with companies that merge and change and seem to constantly change
their name and want to rename the domain. I know 2003 can do this but I have
a lot of WIN2K only out there.
Is there an easier way on the local machine to deal with this profile issue?
