Replacing Freeserve USB Speedtouch Modem Question

I'm looking to replace my Freeserve standard USB Speedtouch modem (the
purple one) with a dedicated Ethernet ASDL Modem/Router so that I can plug
my Xbox Live(Ethernet) connection in to the new modem so I don't have to
have my PC on all
the time to play.

Could anyone who has bought a new modem to replace the Freeserve one confirm
the following for me:-

Do I need to uninstall the software & drivers that came with the Freeserve
modem and remove the hardware from the system. Will this leave the Freeserve
Broadband 'Dial Up' connection intact in 'My Network places' ?? I don't
want to delete the connection settings as I don't know how to install them
without re-installing the Freeserve modem disc.

Then I assume I install the new modem/router drivers, software & hardware
and dial up with my Freeserve settings for internet access on my PC??

I assume that if I configure my Xbox with the new network settings with the
new modem that should sort that side of things out??

Could anyone help please or point me in the right direction?

I'm assuming Freeserve won't switch the USB modem for an Ethernet one so I
can use it with a router??

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Thanks
Jason

no you won't need to "dial up" as such now

your router handles that automatically for you and takes the isp's ip
address and then gives you a local ip address.

set your network connections to DHCP or auto confogiured and you'll be
fine and it will work.

make sense?

To change from USB ADSL modem to ADSL router you don't have to install or
un-install anything.
Providing your PC already has a network card all you have to do is select
"Never dial a connection" in Internet Options / Connections and enter your
connection ID / password into the router.

You can optimize things later on but for a basic internet connectivity via a
router that's all you have to do.
