Hi All!
How could I replace/reinstall one of two wins hub servers?
Design:
We have a distributed WINS/DNS/DCs design with about 55 servers. All DCs are
also WINS and DNS server. The WINS design is like MS recommend it. We have 2
Wins Hub server which replicate. All other Wins server (Satelite site server)
replicate with one of the two hub servers.
Problem:
Everything works well at the moment but we have to change the hardware of
one of the hub servers. AD and DNS is not a problem but I am not sure about
the WINS service. We have to use the same name and IP for the new machine.
Questions/ possible solutions:
1. Could I just bring up the new WINS server with the same name and IP and
then reconfigure the replication partners?
2. Should I bring up the new server with the same name/IP, configure the
replication partners and additionally configure the "Start Version ID" to the
highest value that the old server had?
3. Should I restore the old database to the new server?
4. Is it'n possible to use the same name/IP because the new server doesn't
know that it is responsibel for the WINS entries the old server had?
It would be realy great if you could give me a hint or some documentation
about the problem!
