Yes, you should be able to rename the computer name using domain admins or local administrator. One way or other we will be asked to enter domain admin account to join the domain.

I have a Windows XP Pro machine that is already in a domain. (The domain
controller is running Windows 2003)
I need to rename the XP machine. (And stay in the domain)
Is it as simple as "My Computer", "Computer Name", and entering in the new
name?
Should I do this while logged in under "administrator" in the "local" (or
"domain") machine?
Will this cause any problems?
Thanks.
