I have to rename a Windows 2003 server, but have many functions that address
the server and it's shares as they are. Is there a way to rename the server
and still retain access to the shares through the existing Naming...? Seems
I heard something in a class about an Alternate name being possible.

After you rename the machine you can create an alias (CNAME) record in DNS
for the old name. When you do this you should disable strict name checking
on the server:

Thank you for the advice. I will give it a try. What is the downside of
Disabling the Strict Name checking? Are there security issues I need to be
concerned with?
