Rename Windows 2003 Domain

I have a client that setup their domain somewhat inconsistently with
Microsoft's recommended way. Their NetBIOS domain name is identical to
their DNS domain name. We have discussed with them about changing their DNS
domain name to something like domian.com or internal.domain.com. Something
other than just domain. They also own the name on the internet eg,
domain.com. This is required because of a few A records they would like to
have published externally.

They have one Exchange 2003 server. On the domain rename tool's web site, I
saw that Exchange installations are not supported. When I read the
documetation, it only mentioned Exchange 2000 as not being supported. Is
this a typo on the web site? I can see in the documentation that Exchange
2000 will not allow the rename tool to run. Does this mean that you can run
the rename tool with an Exchange 2003 server on the network, but it may not
work? If it's ok to have an Exchange 2003 server on the network, has anyone
renamed a domain with Exchange 2003 on it?

Thanks
Jeremy

You sure that wasn't for 2000 domains? A 2003 domain can already be
renamed, while 2000 domains could not without an extra tool.

Domain rename with Exchange 2003 is supposed to be supported in
the Exchange 2003 SP1 timeframe (soon) see:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;838623

(a pretty scary thing to do IMHO)

Same here,..I would much rather migrate to a new Domain & remove the old
one. It takes longer but is a lot more safer.
