I have two Windows 2003 servers:

Server (A) is an internal LAN DC File/Print/DNS Server.
Server (B) is a Remote Web and Name Server.

Originally Server (A) was set up to use DOMAIN.NET but now DOMAIN.NET is now
being used by Server (B)’s Name Server Domain.

Obviously I am now having a lot of issues with the Server (A) LAN & Clients.
I therefore need to rename the domain on Server (A) to something else that
is not already used.

Two questions:

1. What is the best way to do this? I have never renamed a server before
and have a lot of critical data on that box although it is not on the boot
drive. I do not want to have to rebuild it if at all possible.

2. Does the Domain name (NetBIOS Name) it have to be in an internet domain
format like NEWDOMAIN.NET, or can I just use something like NEWDOMAIN without
the extension?

Thanks - Jody
