Removing Machine from Network

Hello Experts,
I hope I have the correct forum. I'm sure this question will be simple for
you folks, but I'm just sort of stuck.

I have a very simple basic network of 5 machines hooked in to my switch.
Each of these machines are on my Network and have access to the Internet all
through the switch.

All I need to do is remove 2 of these machines from the Network (but let
them still access the Internet). I just don't want these machines to be able
to see other machines on the network. I have been reading through the help
files but cannot find how to get these machines off the network.

Both of the machines I need to remove are Windows 2000 SP4.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
avi

Avi,
You could achieve this by creating a new VLAN on your switch for the two
PC's.
Browing the network to see machines is a netbios function and does not work
by default across VLANs.
Or I guess you could just turn the browser service off, or disable netbios,
on those machines.

I think disabling Netbios over TCP/IP is probably the easiest way to do
it. These machines then won't show up in the browse list but will still be
able to access the Internet using TCP/IP. He probably doesn't have the
equipment to support VLANs.

"Network" in this context really doesn't mean anything other than "they're
all connected." Unless you have a switch that supports VLANs (as suggested
by Anthony), or an additional router you can install, note that with your
existing config nearly anything you do will be cosmetic - and not really
secure. You can make it more difficult for users to browse the network, but
that won't stop anyone who knows anything. You can configure your
file/printer sharing to prevent access from unauthorized users, but unless
you have a domain (not a workgroup) this is a pain in the ___.
