Removing logon password ?

Hi all,

Each time my win98se machines start they need a
windows logon username and password, both machines
are on a lan and one has access to adsl and the
other can get to it via internet connection sharing
which incidentally works fine even though the
modem does PPPoE LLC authentication. Provided the
modem powers up before the first machine then everything
works fine...

My question is. Can I remvoe the need for a password
for each machine at power up and still have them both
access each other and the net ?

thanks for any replies

PS: My handle has been hijacked sometimes and I dont swear

What I do is use tweakUI to auto logon all the machine on my little home
network.
They would be able to access the net without one but not each other.

Glad to help with the first one, but the second one I have bad news for you
on. You can't share a network resource through a serial cable. The network
stacks are incompatible.

Brilliant thanks, works a treat, much less hassle

Now I'm just trying to work out how to allow internet acess into one of the

PCs through a serial port for my neighbour or to a laptop...

mmmm, I've heard rumour of a DOS based programs that
'pass' net access dialup fashion to a nominated serial
port, these could work under Win98Se (maybe), but
can I find them - not so far

I have also seen internet IP type program for Win95 which worked
through a laplink style parallel cable, but this doesnt interest me,
I'm sure people have done TCP/IP over serial - its just a matter
of finding a task to relay that from a serial port to the virtual tcp/ip
stack in win98se.

Surely it would be feasible sicne DOS utilities like wget and lynx
work fine as Win32 apps under Win98se ?

I've heard rumours of Bigfoot but I don't hold my breath waiting for him to
arrive. :-)

I wouldnt be so negative, there are a couple of TCP <-> serial packages for
windows and there is also pppshare which I will be trying out,

After all linux has this sort of thing built in but my learning curve for linux

would be steep, I'm checking first to see whats availablefor Win98se which
might
be a WIn32 port from a linux application line Lynx and Wget are - and they
work fine in a DOS window under Win98se,

To put it in the same class as bigfoot is just plain silly !
