This is probably very simple to most but it is causing me a headache. I
have two computers linked successfully to a router. One by cable one by
wireless. All working well between one another and the broadband
connection. I now wish to change the computer from the cable connection
(new computer and new owner linking up!) How do I remove the old name and
attributes. 'Fred' being removed and 'John' connecting up! How do I get
rid of old 'Fred' and his shared files and drives please!
Mary

Generally you don't need to "get rid" of old entries in the Network
Neighborhood as they will disappear on their own shortly.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes the name of the entry has gone. So
'Fred' is now off to pastures new but what he had access to as shared is
appearing now in 'Johns' network folder. I wanted John to start afresh with
an empty folder. Please

You could delete the entries there, just right-click and delete any that
don't exist any longer. But they also should go away in time.

Thank you again Richard but if it was as easy as you say even I would have
achieved it by now.

When I click on the contents of the new network holder 'John' there are
several folders which were in the previous named network holder. ie Fred.
If I right click as you say there is no facility to erase/delete them only
Open, Explore, Find, map Network Drive, Create Shortcut and Properties. If
I open any of the folders the contents can be deleted but that does not rid
me of the Folders. I would like to have a clean network folder underneath
John so that I can add just a few folders that will be shared. It is very
difficult for me to explain but boy! is it frustrating!

Have a look in the registry under
Hkey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\curr entversion\network\lanman.
...
to see if the share names appear there - delete as required (or not as the
case may be).
