how to remove lock on wireless network

i have set up many small office and home wireless networks, but this is a
first. i have set up my office with a dlink wireless router and also hard
wired every office. a few wireless laptops have no problem logging on to our
wep secured internet. but this last laptop seems to log on with the wep
password ok but wont access the internet. when you pull up the network
connection status screen on the wireless connection you can see it trying to
send packets but there is a gold lock on the computer symbol and nothing is
going to the received packets, this is also happening on an older hard wired
machine. the laptop is brand new could this be that the computers are not
updated with the latest microsoft updates.

The "gold lock" symbol means that the WLAN is secured.
Does this give some clue?
