Hi!

I would like to know if it exist a way to find out how the Microsoft Windows
Network is populated under Entire Network / Network Neighborhood?

I'm asking that, because I'm currently looking for a way to remove old /
invalid domains names from that list, and I couldn't find any entry regarding
those domains into WINS, DNS and local browsing tables, SO, WHERE IT GET /
POPULATE THAT LIST?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that we cleaned up the Active Directory Domains and
Trusts too.

How long has it been since the domain name has been unused?

Microsoft Windows Network has nothing to do with Active Directory. It is
an NT legacy system and uses Netbios names and broadcasts. The browse list
is built by the computer browser service.

The name you see is probably stored in WINS somewhere. If its a domain
name, look for a <domainname 1b> (domain master browser) or <domainname
1c> (domain PDC emulator) entry. Or you can clear the WINS database and let
the system rebuild it.

Now at least a week... and they are not in the WINS server database.

How we could get more information about a domain or workgroup listed there?

Thanks.

It is populated by the network Browse Master and by WINS. What happens if
you turn off the browser service on a PC and then look at Network
Neighbourhood?

Nothing, still have the same computers list...

And the same story after restarting the service.

Thanks.
