Remote X menu only?

Is there an easy way to get the KDE or GNOME menu only from a remote
machine's
window manager to open in a local window? I don't want the whole
desktop/window
manager but I want an easier way to start programs than ssh'ing over and
typing in the
name for each one.

I was hoping for some way to pick up the actual menu that would appear on
the remote machine so I didn't have to repeat the coding exercise every time
I install a different program on a different machine.
