Remote Printing Problems

Hello Everyone,

I am having problems with remote printing. I have a small home
ethernet /wireless network of three computers (one desktop installed with
Fedora Core 2, a server installed with Windows 2003 Server and a laptop
installed with Fedora Core 3/rc3. I have an Epson Stylus C80 printer which
is attached to the desktop, which also serves as the print server for
remote printing. I am also using the KDE desktop environment on both the
laptop and desktop. All of the computers are connected to a Linksys
Broadband Wireless Router. I can connect with the laptop to the internet
with no problem. However, I cannot "see" the printer whenever I use the
KDE Print Manager, nor does it find the printer when I hit the scan button.
I notice that when I go to a shell command on the laptop and use the
command "hostname -i" , I can only get the loopback address "127.0.0.1
instead of an assigned DHCP address (such as 192.168.0.5, for example). The
other computers can receive their own DHCP address from the router. With
the wireless card utility, it shows that the card has the address
"192.168.0.4", but as I mentioned above, it doesn't see this address when I
use the shell command.

What can I do to resolve this situation, because I know that when I had
Mandrake 10.0 installed on the desktop, I didn't have problems with
connecting remotely with my printer. Anh help would be greatly
appreciated.

The easiest way to get printing to work is to install CUPS.
Then login to the CUPS config from your webbrowser with:
http://localhost:631

Hello Conny,

Thanks for the advice. However, I am still having the same problem.
I used the CUPS configuration tool and in the KDE print manager, I can now
see the Epson Stylus C80 entry but there is still no print output. As I had
mentioned above, when I go to the shell command, I enter "hostname -i", and
I continue to get a loopback address "127.0.0.0" instead of a DHCP address.
Any reason why this is?

Hello Conny,

Once again, thanks for your help. I have my remote printing restore
again, but what I had to do was to install my Mandrake Linux 10.0 version
again on my desktop and voilį, remote printing began to work again. I
guess that there is something with Fedora Core 2 that does not allow for
remote printing or perhaps there is a bug somewhere.... Once again, thanks.

OK I see, thanks, I never tried FC2, maybe it's a firewall issue?
