remote network transfer speed

I have two xp SP2 pcs with 54mb/s wireless cards and a belkin wireless
router. I have shared some files accordingly but when i try to copy shared
files to the other pc it takes longer than expected for the files to copy. Is
there anyway to make the transfer faster, change firewalll settings of router
etc???? I am running xp firewall and the routers built in firewall.
