If using the Windows VPN client, get your user to untick the 'Use remote
gateway' checkbox on his VPN setup.
Now access to printers, internet, etc is from the VPN client computer, only
access to the Remote Desktop target and it's subnet uses the encrypted VPN
tunnel.
If using VPN that terminates in your firewall e.g. Cisco, consult their
documentation on how to implement split tunnelling.
