remote desktop with routing and remote access

first the problem, then the configuration:
I cannot remotely administer my client's new windows 2003
standard edition server from across the internet. It
works fine internally, even when addressing the external
IP of the server. The server can ping me, I cannot ping
the server. The server is running the DHCP service and
Routing and Remote Access. It has two Nics, one internal
static IP (192 subnet). The external Nic is directly
connected to the ADSL modem (ISP assures me no traffic is
being filtered), and obtaining its IP automatically. The
remote desktop service is enabled, I noticed the windows
firewall is not able to be enabled because Routing and
Remote Access Server is running. I am assuming I need to
configure RAS to allow external pings and rdp
connections? Any help you can provide would be greatly
appreciated. I saw already that I have to manually add
ICMP or something to get the pings to get to the nic...
dang wish I knew this before I drove back home 800 miles
away. I figured if i could connect locally I was good to
go. :P

Probably you enabled the firewall when you configured Routing and Remote
Access.

Open the RRAS console, expand IP Routing and click on NAT/Basic Firewall.
Right click on the Internet interface and select Properties. The firewall
configuration is on the Services and Ports tab - there you can allow Remote
Desktop.
