Have three computers A, B and C on a network X. Network is permanently
connected via broadband. Is there any solution to connect to these PCs
remotely and securely from an internet connected PC anywhere in the world?
Ideally this solution can be run from a USB memory stick/floppy/CD-R, so
will avoid the restrictions on installing software that usually come with
internet cafes, and friend's computers. Don't mind paying for this.

Set up a VPN - Virtual Private Network - for your network X which will
allow you to do what you want. A useful thing to do anyway as it gives
you data security when connecting to your network through e.g. WiFi
Hotspots

Any websites that you could recommend that would show me how to do this
would be great.

If the PCs are running XP Pro then you could enable remote access and
use a USB-bootable version of Linux and the remote desktop client
utility, otherwise look at using one of the variants of VNC (my current
favourite is UltraVNC) to setup VNC servers on the PCs and then use a
USB-bootable version of Linux with a VNC client.

By far the easiest way is to go to www.logmein.com and follow the simple
instructions.

It's a free service, and it just works.

You can remotely control your PCs from anywhere in the world. I even use it
from my Pocket PC.

The free version doesn't include file transfer, but I just email stuff to
myself!

Regards

Martin
