We've recently added a 2003 SP1 standard server to a network which has 2
Server 2000 machines as DCs. We access the network remotely via a LAN-LAN VPN
(using ADSL VPN routers as the end points).
We can access the 2000 servers with no problems (RDP, ftp, browse etc),
however the 2003 server will only respond to pings, and no other services
work. Locally, the 2000 servers can see everything on the 2003 machine with
no problems. It seems to dislike the fact that we are a different subnet.
The network structure is as follows:
Our site:
XP Pro -> LAN1 -> Netgear FVL328 VPN router -> Internet -> Netgear FVS318
VPN Router -> LAN2 -> Server 2003
Our local subnet (LAN1) is 192.168.226.0/24, gateway is .254. The remote
subnet (LAN2) is 192.168.42.0/24, gateway .254.
The server is a new install of 2003 (with integrated SP1). All current
updates applied.
