We're all biased in here ;-), so you'll no doubt get some replies from
people who love or hate certain ISPs for their own reasons, regardless of
any "logic"
If I were you, I'd do a bit of research yourself first.
Have a look at - and do comparisons of - ISPs on sites such as
www.thinkbroadband.com
Regardless of personal views, some of the "bias" in this newsgroup is
currently definitely *against* the following ISPs (i.e. don't touch 'em with
a bargepole at the moment if you value your sanity, etc), for various
reasons:
TalkTalk - takes ages for them to provide a connection, poor service. Owned
by Carphone Warehouse. Didn't you see the BBC Watchdog programme a few
months back?
Sky - as above
Virgin - falling apart at the seams (but you knew that anyway).
Tiscali - crap service
Be - fast service, not available everywhere and tight-fisted (apparently
won't contact BT if you have a line problem, as it costs them money, which
they don't like spending).
BT - expensive for what you get, with Indian call-centre.
Pipex - going down the drain, apparently.
When you've done your research, you may well find that the ISP that meets
your needs turns out to be a small one that doesn't advertise with a lot of
hype. Don't be put off. It will probably give good service at a reasonable
cost, with good after-sales service, unlike many of the bigger boys.
You might end up with a list something like:
AAISP, IDnet, Brightview (Includes Globalnet, Madasafish and Waitrose)
Entanet, etc.
Hope that helps,
George
