Redhat 8.0 login as root

Hello,
I am working with Redhat 8.0 boxes and I *must* be able to login
remotely as root *via telnet*. Well, this does not work. My question is
if there is a way to enable remote telnet login as root.

Now, please, don't tell that it is a security hole and so on. I know
and I do use ssh where I can. But in some *specific* cases there is a
definite need for telnet root login to special machines in *private
network*, like in case of perl - driven automatic tethereal activation.

Thank you,
Michael.

To login as root you need to have the 'virtual terminal' (pts...) in the
/etc/securetty file. Add a bunch in there.

You can also login as normal user and use "su -" to switch to root.

He is right. In security perspective, It is always better to be logged
on as normal user, then switch to root using "su -".
