Dear all,

is there any GigaBit Network Interface Card that one could
recommend?

It should run on 32bit as well as on 64bit PCI busses,
provide a copper (RJ-45) interface and should have a good
performance compared to other cards.

What are the criteria I have to check when buying a GigaBit NIC?
I have checked the kernel-compile options in 2.6. So, I assume to
know which Chips are supported. But are the other criteria?

Thanks!

wbr,
Lukas

D-Link uses the Realtek chipset. I dropped a pair into Suse 9.1 and
they worked great. Dropped one in a RH 9 box and it was fine too.
$30.00 USD at CompUSA.

I've had good luck with Broadcom ("Tigon III") integrated interfaces, and
also with Intel PRO/1000 ("Wiseman") as actual PCI cards. It might help to
know what price range you're talking about. The Broadcoms we got with a Dell
Poweredge 2650 (~$US4500 at our specs) and a 1750 (~$US2500 at our specs).
The Intel cards we got for about $US200 a pop. I'd highly recommend either
of them.
