A friend is currently on dial up and looking to move to a "broad"band
service.

Wanadoo offer a cheap 17.99p/m deal but that has a 2gb cap which probably
won't be enough for a house with two sons in it , and I think they would be
better with a slower but unlimited offering.
Are there any 256k services that would do the job?

Being on cable myself I have no idea what ADSL deals are out there at the
mo.

v21 offer an uncapped 512k package for £16.99 a month (£9.99 a month for
the first two months). I've been using them for dial-up for a while now
with no problems, but have myslef just ordered an ADSL package with
Plusnet.

I am looking for a BB ISP (January 12 is BB Day) but, with apologies
for the cynicism, I do get a bit suspicious when I see a recommendation
that ends 'please enter my referral code'.

How does this system work? Is it a way to build up a cash pot so you
can afford to switch to another provider when you have 'saved' enough
:-)

For all I know efhbroadband may be the best thing since sliced bread
but references to referral codes just put me off..

That particular one pays out a fiver per new customer. The one I use
will pay out small sums (25p, 50p) for each month that they remain a
customer and while I remain a customer... I wouldn't expect someone
to use a service that I don't use, hence recommend things I do :-)

>but references to referral codes just put me off..

I expect the MD of many a firm gets e-mail 'recommending' use of some
BT internet service (eg BT Broadband) from a "BT Partner" and many IT
firms rely on commission as a way to either exist (recipients) or get
larger market share... Plus.Net and others expect happy customers to
be even happier, if they get some sort of thanks for recommendations!

such as one tel and talk talk
Why dont you just test the forum as per my earlier post?
