We've got a couple of laptops on a wired home network at the moment
using a conventional ADSL modem router. Both the laptops have a built in
802.11b/g card and I'd like to use this facility and dispense with the
cat 5 cables in the house.

Would I be right in thinking that I just need a wireless ADSL
modem/router? I was looking at the Belkin modem/router shown here :-
http://tinyurl.com/2hvtk

My son often visits with his laptop which does not have a wireless card
so the ability to connect to the router using a wired connection would
be an advantage. As far as I can tell (and I'm no expert) the Belkin has
this feature.

Is the Belkin a good product or are there better alternatives?

Cheers,

No, all you need is a access point. It'll just plug into a LAN port on the
existing router and the laptops will be able to connect to that, with the same
facilities as they would have wired.
A wireless modem\router is just a normal modem\router with an access point built
in, in the same way as a modem\router is a router with a modem built in.
If you really want to combine it all in one box then a wireless modem\router is
fine, but from a cost point of view an access point is cheaper, or you can get a
top quality access point for the price of a wireless modem\router.

I've never personally had any dealings with the Belkin but they're pretty good
from what I've heard.
