I'm after a wireless router. It needs to be good. One PC will be plugged
straight into it with a Cat 5 lead, the other will be pretty much above it
in the building, and it'll preferably have a built in ADSL modem. Any
suggestions?

I'm looking more at the £60 - £70 end of the range. I need this to be
reliable... I've also got a DECT phone, if that make any odds...

Netgear DG834G or DG834GT. You get what you pay for with Belkin shite
and that noname square metal box Etec clone stuff.

If you're not on somebody's shit list, you're not doing anything
worthwhile.

Assuming you're serious about your second statement, look at the Draytek
Vigor series.

Second person to say Netgear. Fancy a Linksys due to the cisco link though.

You have to work from the basis, that all adsl routers, from all brands that
are below about £100 are shit. They all require frequent reboots, have power
supply issues, and unable to reliably cope with bittorrents.

So, taking that into account the best one is, without doubt the Netgear
DG834G, a very common router, now rolled out by AOL and Sky (modified).

Another brand of note, that i have found reliable, is 3Com officeconnect
series, but others seem to have problems.

So, as I said, working on the assumption all are crap, they are the least
crap. Some brands you really must keep completely away from, Belkin,
safecom, d-link and linksys.

If reliability is important to you, then draytek - vigor series is the only
real consumer option, but that comes with a premium price tag.

Agreed. Vigor are solid as a rock, and the support is pretty good aswell.

Ted.

Is that the case for wireless routers or does the same apply to wired
routers as I find my D-Link 504T never requires a reboot, handles
bittorrents fine in fact runs perfectly and it was only £ 23 from eBay. Are
you sure the problems you've expierienced are not down to your broadband
supplier.

Fuxxache. Does the DG834 cope well at all with bit torrent then? The
drayteks IIRC are about £180? Are any of the wired routers better? For that
sort of money I could cope wth climbign ladders and laying cable...
