I'm trying to deploy OpenLDAP on my home lan for authentication and
address books, to begin. Later I'd like to add a Samba primary domain
controller, for true single-login across my 'enterprise'. OK, it's a
bit absurd for a home lan, but it's also a learning experience.
Web tutorials, guides, and documentation have got my server up, but
on the schema-side they seem to be single-focused. Do *this* to get
authentication, or do *that* for an address book. I've glanced at
one book in a bookstore that told how to do both, and I suspect that
this is the type of book I'll want in dead-tree form for better
reading. I've gotten the impression that you want to be really
careful when setting up the schema, because it's not easily modified
later.
So can people give recommendations? Amazon has between 10 books, but
two of those appear tied to Solaris and Novell. One is the ubituitous
OReilly, which I'd probably pick not knowing otherwise. From the
Amazon reviews, "LDAP Directories Explained" looks like my best bet,
but I'd like to hear from others.
Thanks,
Dale Pontius
