Instead of looking at your wireless connection, look at your "Local Area Connection #4" and uninstall all items other than Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing, Q0S Packet Scheduler, and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Now select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties." On the next screen, click "Advanced." On the next screen, click the "WINS" tab. On the "WINS" tab screen, click the radio button to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" and OK your way out. -- Lem -- MS-MVP - Networking To the moon and back with 64 Kbits of RAM and 512 Kbits of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer |

I have : Broadband (not connected as the connection is through my router) Dial Up Incoming connections...no clients connected LAN 4 High speed internet ..connected Still on google and more tips I think the problem is a broken WMI service and I am trying to see how to repair or fix this. Seems everything relies on this service and so far I cannot figure out how to get it started Also I am on XP with SP2 Thanks Bill |

I got my WMI working from a tip on the internet, which also got my firewall working...but I still cannot get the network work groups connected through the network wizard. Let me ask another questions...although this PC had the problems the laptop was still able to connect to the internet via the wireless router...of course now the laptop cannot connect to this PC which is the problem..Should I redo the wireless set up via the wireless wizard or is that basically the same as the network wizard? I really dont want to mess up the laptop/internet as my daughter relies on that for her studies. Not sure if I explained this correctly Thanks Bill |

Not > sure if I explained this correctly > > Thanks > Bill Well after more poking around I got the network reestablished without using the wizard. I opened My Network Places and saw a heading to 'Add a network place' . I started this and it opened with MSN web site and an 'other location' option. I used the browse feature and navigated to the folder that showed the laptop and added it. It reconnected the laptop and all is well. Did a printer test, file viewing etc. and everything works I would like to thank Lem and the others who responded to my call. It is good to know such interest and support is available. Many thanks again. Bill |
