RealteK, Ascom and RedHat do not give me IP connection

I recently purchased a high speed modem from ASCOM (APA-45i) to
connect to the net through the electricity line.

That external modem can be either connected through USB or LAN to my
(dual boot) machine.
Under Windows, it works fine with the USB port as I am using it now
However, Linux (RedHat 9.0) requires the LAN.
-> I bought an Ethernet card RealTek RTL8139/810x Family Fast ethernet
NIC
I could install the card without problem on both windows and linux.
Under windows I can get an IP address through dchp, but under Linux I
just do not get any !!!

If I feed in linux the IP found from windows, it connects, but does
not allow me to do anything further.
I have been trying to play around with firewall, cards, services, but
it still does not work.

Any body could tell me what to do ?
