I swapped the cards around (8169 chipsaet into a box that had an sk
chipset card) and the same thing. turns out it's the *friggin patch
cable*. Yes, I did try a few different patch cables - cat 5e. No dice.
If I move the cable from a box that worked at gigabit speed (acc. to
ethtool) the other box can connect at gigabit but the previously working
box cannot (throttling it down to 100/FD let's it work fine) cannot
connect at gigabit.
